The World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) is an official International day proclaimed in 2019 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). This was based on a proposal from the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO).

We are thrilled to announce that registrations are NOW OPEN for the 2025 World Engineering Day Hackathon!
The World Engineering Day Hackathon is a unique international competition where individuals work in teams to solve a real-world problem with a solution that advances one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It’s a great opportunity to showcase your knowledge and skills. This event is aimed at engineering students, but individuals from all disciplines and secondary school students who have a passion for engineering are invited to join.
SDG 1: No Poverty
This year, the Hackathon focuses on using engineering skills to put an end to poverty around the world. From increasing food insecurity to a lack of affordable housing, poverty is one of the biggest issues of our time – affecting nearly half of the world’s population. Join us for a Hackathon like no other, where you can use your skills to give everyone in the world a chance to prosper and live a productive and rich life.
World Engineering Day (WED) for Sustainable Development is celebrated on 4th March.
Register as an individual and form a team to develop a solution to a real-world problem.
